Job: Business Development Officer, Gulf of Maine Research Institute
The Gulf of Maine Research Institute (GMRI) pioneers collaborative solutions to global ocean challenges. Located in Portland, Maine, GMRI is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to the resilience of the Gulf of Maine ecosystem and the communities that depend on it. They have a staff of 68 and an annual budget of $11 million. They’re a sophisticated, entrepreneurial organization and are about to launch their first two for-profit ventures.
GMRI is searching for candidates for their new position of Business Development Officer to: (1) identify prospects, select, and guide the development/funding/growth of internal business opportunities based on GMRI’s marine science, fishery management, sustainable seafood, and education technology know-how; (2) identify and access sources of business development and investment funding to support such ventures; (3) extend business development support to businesses independent of GMRI that are aligned with our mission; and (4) assess and, if merited, develop investment funds for such purposes. This position will be senior executive-level reporting to the President/CEO and interacting as a colleague with the management team, staff, board, relevant supply chains, and investment community.
